Marketing Bud's story so far5/10/2022 Helping small businesses is my passion and a passion that stems from a young age.
My Dad still owns his small construction plastering company. I'd receive 50 cents for cleaning his desk as an eight year old. Pretty fair I thought back then. My parents taught me the value of hard work and honesty. I grew up in a town built on small business. Daylesford in Victoria, a country town best known for its natural mineral water, spas, cafes and yearly gay and lesbian festival. My first job at the age of 14 was in the local Daylesford Hotel. I was the only waitress on a Sunday and mastered the art of carrying three plates up several stairs to the top balcony. I then tried my hand in retail at another small, locally owned Jewellery store, whilst still working at the hotel. I remained in Daylesford until I was 18 and had the freedom to follow my dream for a life away from the small town I had always known. This is when I headed North to Queensland. Those experiences from a young age taught me the importance of great customer service and communication. Now living on the Gold Coast, where I’ve called home for almost 14 years now, I see the same, but in a different way. A thriving, ambitious city, made up of so many small businesses, many gone big, and so much entrepreneurial spirit and pride in our city. It was in this city I studied, sunk my teeth into a Marketing Internship with Gold Coast Tourism (Destinaton Gold Coast) and landed my first ‘real’ role as a Sales Executive at the then Sheraton Mirage Resort & Spa Gold Coast. Before starting in the sales team I had a month rotating through each of the hotel departments. I loved this, especially after thinking during year 12 that I might like to study Hotel Management. After eight months with Sheraton my dream job became available, Executive Australia Marketing with Gold Coast Tourism. Over the next four and half years I went on to enjoy some of the most memorable times with an amazing team and incredibly supportive manager who I’m still in contact with. Following my time with Gold Coast Tourism, I landed another dream job I thought would never be possible, working in AFL on the Gold Coast with the Gold Coast SUNS. This role allowed me to master the skill of continually re-exploring and striving to improve your local area marketing and highlighted the importance of brand reputation. I've witnessed first hand the impact of creating a community of passionate followers and now back myself with the talent of making anything happen within a short amount of time, with limited resources. This fast paced role provided me (a traditionally organised, planner) the ability to think quickly, respond faster and make 'it' happen, while always striving to deliver each activation better than the last. Throughout my time with the SUNS I've remained connected with the local Gold Coast tourism industry via an amazingly supporting networking group - Women In Tourism. I first started attending as a nineteen year old, before years later joining the volunteer committee and quickly becoming their leader in the President role with a chance opening. This group has enabled my passion and love for hospitality and tourism to stay alive. With this love of small business and helping others, Marketing Bud was born.
